Créé en 1964, l'ESAT (Etablissement et Service d'Aide par le Travail) Ernest Schaffner a été un des premiers ESAT de la région. Il est financé par l'Etat sous le contrôle de l'Agence Régionale de Santé. Avec l'Entreprise Adaptée, l'ESAT forme le Pôle Travail de l'Apei de Lens.
